Today Ryanne accompanied Gabi to a big meeting with all of the therapists and the social worker, and then later talked to one of her doctors. Here is the scoop!*
The consensus is that Gabi's progress so far is great. It looks like she will be leaving the hospital on May 14th. They think she'll probably have stopped using a wheelchair by then, but will still need a walker. Unfortunately, at this point they're not sure how much use she will ultimately have of her left hand. It's not back yet, but it may come.
The neuropsychologist did say that her brain seems to be working fine with memory/speech/etc. So her main problems are motor skills, but every day her leg and arm seem to be working better. For example, in physical therapy she walked for 150 ft today, with only a little assistance! And, she's going to be walking across the stage for graduation, with my (Ryanne's) help.
Once out of the hospital, Gabi will start outpatient therapy three times a week for an undetermined period of time. Happily, she might just be able to get free therapy! But she will have to start seeing a primary care physician, which could be tricky with insurance (so if you are at all able, keep those donations coming!!**)
